Monday I had my interview.  Tuesday we took the bus an hour to Manly beach for swimming and relaxing.  Wednesday we took the bus to Circular Quay and then the ferry to Drummoyne, the tip of the peninsula where my new job is.  Our Opal app doesn’t usually show ferries and I wanted to see the time difference/ how difficult it would be to take the ferry to and from work.  I would still need two buses along the way, but being on the water would be way more fun than a bus. We ate at a Greek restaurant for lunch and then went to get our mail in the CBD (basically downtown Sydney).  I needed all black shoes for work so we googled shoe stores and wandered around to find ones that fit and weren’t too expensive.  Shoes and jeans are really costly here (well really everything is, being in a big city on an island…).  We ended up finding the Paddy Markets by accident and strolling through those.  The best way to get souvenirs or anything on the cheap is to go to the markets.  We bought beach towels since Donna at our Airb&b had a bunch of towels for us, we will need them in the future.  I did end up finding some shoes but after I got home I got to thinking that I need undershirts for work too.  Our scrub tops are red and my bubble gum pink and lime green undershirts won’t look great with them.

Thursday we took the bus (the M40 for the last time) to the Australian Museum.  It is a natural history museum with taxidermy animals, rocks and minerals, cultural exhibits, and a cool exhibit on spiders.  We learned a lot about spiders in Australia and those native to Sydney.  Now we are all prepared for if/when we encounter them.  It was a really cool experience; interactive with live spiders and demos.  After the museum we walked to get our mail since our Goget card was there for moving tomorrow.  We rented a car through Goget for an hour and a half to move our stuff from our Airb&b to our new rented room in the town house.  Since we were in the CBD we went undershirt shopping as well and thankfully I found some and on sale. 🙂  It is just odd to shop for things here.  It is not like the US that has big flagship stores and malls are obvious and separated from the rest of the city.  Malls are in groups of buildings and hidden among the rest of the city buildings.  Here maps and google maps have been very useful to find things.  Grocery stores are thankfully easier to find since they are bigger.  It will all just take getting used to, and hopefully help and advice from our future coworkers.

Well I must go pack up; we move house tomorrow.  We have somehow acquired more stuff since arriving so it will be interesting to see how we are all going to make it work.  Good bye Bo and Donna and hello Jax and Heidi.  Enjoy the pictures-my sandal tan lines are the most impressive to me. 😉
