Hello all! August 7th marks six months since we set out on our flight to Australia. Things have gone really well for us. We both have jobs we like, a nice place to live, and the cats settled in well. We are lucky things came together so well. Sydney has been good to us and we are not planning on leaving this city anytime soon. We will though, be back to visit in Wisconsin in less than a week!! 🙂 We are excited to see all our family and friends and catch up. The weather here has been great for “winter”. I was in a t shirt and flip flops today outside. Our town house is still chilly. I am going to be happy in the warm Wisconsin summer. Can’t wait to go up to the cottage and see my parents’ garden. It will be an awesome visit. I need to start packing…eventually…maybe Thursday. 🙂 Then when we come back here it will be days away from spring!
This week was more of the same as far as work, meal prepping, eating, and riding the bus. Brandon has been working from home more which is fun for him. Then he has cat support all day and I get to take the best things for my lunch since I am up earlier. I was out enjoying our patio with a warm drink earlier this week, no sun means a bit of a chill in the evenings yet. With Heidi off in Hawaii and Jax working/sick with a cold, we have been on our own for food. We are actually going through all our meals and groceries for a change; less dining out.
Saturday we went to the Rocks Markets and found a few fun things. We also stopped in some opal shops and I found my anniversary present. I have been looking for an opal pendant since we moved here and finally found one, so Brandon got it for me. Australia is known for its opals and Sydney has A LOT of opal shops. They are pricey, but so pretty. Happy belated five year to us! Brandon is going to get a fancy straight razor as his anniversary present, but hasn’t found the right one yet either. We walked south in the city and found an oyster/burger place to eat lunch and then stopped at the craft store. I got more yarn for knitting and saw a knitted wombat. Even with a pattern, I doubt I will ever be good enough to make anything like that. We walked to the Paddy’s Markets for some Australian gifts for when we come back. It is so hard to know what people would like from Australia. I am at the point that I just want you all to come here yourselves and pick out fun things. There are so many unique souvenirs, art, crafts, and so much more to choose from. I don’t want to buy anything non useful for people.
Saturday night we were meant to go out with some of Jax’s friends for dinner and drinks in Newtown, but one of them got sick so they cancelled. We went grocery shopping and had a quiet night in with spaghetti and meat balls. I watched the rest of Game of Thrones and knitted. Now I am all caught up. 🙂 Sunday we had church, house cleaning, talked to my parents, then went out and enjoyed the sun at the Cremorne Reserve. We brought our chairs and read with a view of the Opera House and Harbour Bridge. The wind ended up chasing us home an hour or so later. I tried to take a power nap, but failed because of the screaming, crying next door neighbor kids. I made dinner and now am working on this post and then on to paying bills. Woo! Just an exciting weekend for us.
