It has been another lovely week here in Sydney. Sunny and warm for us going out and about. We have been lucky to go out and enjoy it! Monday I was off and went to Cremorne Point to read in the sun, with a beautiful view of the city. The lorikeets were making a racket in the tree by me, but the view and being out in nature was relaxing. Brandon and Heidi met me out there. We had been in touch with the rental agency all day about the apartment we saw. They had asked for more documents and more info and were working on our application. We heard Tuesday that we were declined due to our cats. The Landlord doesn’t want pets so it is a no go. We were bummed and went down the street to the Honey Rider for a cocktail. I had a lovely Amaretto Sour (fancier than just amaretto and squirt bc they don’t have sour soda here) and we mourned the loss of the “perfect” place. We decided to take a break from looking and just wait and see what happens. If another perfect place comes our way, great, but we aren’t in a hurry. Just so sad about the view…and the pool…sigh.
Jax is still house sitting, so the three of us were holding down the fort until next week. Brandon met me in Drummoyne after work Friday and we went to this seafood place called Ocean Foods. It was crazy busy and they advertise the best fish and chips in the universe, so we had to give it a go. It was delicious and I was so full on the bus ride home. Saturday I worked and it was a busy, but good day. I then took the bus back and read outside until it was time to go out. Heidi, Jax, and I went over to Heidi’s friend’s Birthday party at his apartment. There was nibbles (snacks/ hors d’oeurves), tiramisu as a cake, and donuts. They had so many extra donuts, that they handed them out at the end, like party favors. We had brought wine to drink too and it was a fun night.
Sunday was sunny and nice, again, so Heidi, Brandon, and I took the ferry in to Circular Quay and then walked to The Rocks to the Glenmore Hotel for lunch. The ferry wharves were crazy crowded when we were coming in. So many people taking advantage of that sunny form of transport. The Glenmore has a roof top dining area with views of the harbour. We shared a summery cocktail pitcher and enjoyed a lovely lunch. We then stopped at a Belgian Chocolate shop for dessert. On the way back to Circular Quay, we stopped to watch a street performer called Bendy Em stuff herself in a box. She is a contortionist and it was amusing. We dropped Heidi off at the ferry wharf and we walked on Darling Harbour. Comic con was going on at the convention center there and I wanted to people watch. We did see a few people dressed up. There was a trio from Game of Thrones as Daenerys, the Spider, and the Night King. We then took the bus back home and I settled in for the night and put my PJs on. I booked my flight for my dad’s surgery. Then Heidi and I got a message from Jax to come out to a bar down the street to watch the Ruby game. I changed and we walked down to meet up with Jax and a bunch of her friends for some drinks. After The Oaks, we went down to another bar called Minsky’s. It was entertaining and the company was great. Jax brought us home and on the way we got McDonald’s. I had not had any “Macca’s” in a very long while. Mainly because I swore them off as a kid when there was a story about using horse meat in their hamburger. And also, they never took no onion seriously with their cheeseburgers. Every time I asked for it and they always failed. Last night I got a cheeseburger and it was perfect, until the last bite. A bit of onion must have gotten stuck on the bun, but I could still taste it. I will give them another try, but Hungry Jacks (the Burger King here) will still be my fast food go to. Even though I haven’t been there since we first arrived here.
Today, Monday, was a public holiday, Labour Day. We took the bus and then the train in to Circular Quay and went to the Opera Bar right outside the Opera House. We met up with one of Heidi’s friends for lunch and drinks. Eventually we journeyed to another bar and Jax met us there. Brandon and I wondered down the street to get gelato from Messina which has amazing flavors. There are hardly any ice cream shops it seems in Sydney, way more gelato places. Some of my friends said I had to check Messina out and it was yummy. The day cooled off and the wind picked up, so we headed home. It was a great weekend. We were out and social with a lot of different people and got to go to new places. Great way to spend the nice days. We hope to get out and about more, the more people we meet and get to hang out with the better. Now that it is warming up, it is good to get out of the house and explore more of the city. Enjoy the pictures. Yay to a short week and more plans this weekend. 🙂
Hi Amy & Brandon,
Great and beautiful pictures! Thank you for sending them. Weather looks like it is really warming up over there while ours is getting cooler; but, I’m not complaining as it is still in the 60 and 70’s during the day, down in the 40’s at night. n Flowers in the containers are still blooming!
Our weekend was rather quiet. Did go out to the Country Inn at Zittau for breakfast after church yesterday morning. I helped with Coffee Fellowship at church, so did not get home until 10:15 a.m., but decided to go for breakfast instead of lunch.
Plan to go into The Mall in Appleton this Wednesday to do some shopping, need a set of flannel sheets for the winter. Think I’ll stop at Bath Bed & Beyond as they show a set of sheets on the web that I like so will see for myself instead of buying on the internet, also have a 20% off coupon to use. But, want to also stop at Penneys and Younkers to look at some things. Plan to call a friend I worked with in Risk Mgt. Dept. at Kimberly-Clark and see if she is available for lunch as I haven’t seen her in a long time and do know she is having some health problems.
Our “Busy Hands” quilting group packed up 67 quilts to ship to Lutheran World Relief this past week, held back 3 for the Christine Ann Center and 3 for the Oshkosh Warming Shelter, also 1 for our Fall Fund-raiser at church. Linda, one of our quilters, is donating one of her personally-made quilts for the Fall Fund-raiser. She makes some absolutely beautiful quilts–has one on display at the church right now entitled “Memories of the Civil War.” The colors are quite rustic and the patterns awesome! Tomorrow, we will gather again to start a new batch of quilts and also to say “good-bye” to one of our quilters who is moving to Minnesota to be near her husband and her parents. Sorry to see Kathy go as she is one of our younger members and the Lord knows that we need those women in the group. So, hoping and praying that HE will send someone to replace her and we’ll have to do some recruiting, too.
Hope all is well and so sorry that you lost the condo you looked at, but something else will come into the picture as time goes on…………………………..
Love, Grandma & Grandpa Kohl xoxoxoxoxo
