Hi all! Hope you having a delightful week! I am going to keep it short-er today because my couch and my Amaretto sweet are calling my name on this dreary Sunday. (there is no sour here, sad story. They also call sweet/Sprite lemonade, but I have already talked about that.) Work has still been crazy for me and nonexistent for Brandon. He went to a few evening Meet Ups to network, so hopefully something will head his way soon.
Brandon and I got out and about into the city this week. Wednesday night we saw our first show at the Opera House called Limbo Unhinged. The Opera House has a few different performance rooms, cafes, and restaurants, on a few levels. We were in the Studio. Limbo Unhinged was a comedy, music driven, acrobatic show that was amazing. Really entertaining and so cool. The performers were so strong and confident in their moves. It was amazing! Saturday night we went to an Astronomy event at the Calyx in the Royal Botanical Gardens. An astrophysicist from the university gave a presentation on the Southern Hemisphere night sky and how to get started as an amateur astronomer. They also had a talk on Aboriginal myths and legends of the night sky and telescopes to look through. We got to see the details of the moon, the nebula in Orion’s Belt and also the Jewel Box in the Southern Cross. It was a really cool event and they had the gardens open late just for us. It was a lovely night and the skies were perfectly clear. It will be fun to look at the stars closer the next time we are away from all the light pollution of the city; maybe on our Cairns trip. On our way to the train station, we saw a the back of a fire truck full of women from a Hen’s party (bachelorette) making noise and ringing bells. It was such an odd site.
The city is preparing for Mardi Gras next weekend. The annual gay and lesbian parade and parties are all the talk in the city. Cher is even performing at one of the after parties. It is the 40th anniversary of the parade so it is going to be even bigger than last year. I don’t know if we will go watch it or not, it was wild and crowded when we did last year, but what an experience. Probably depends on the weather. I think we can watch it on TV or for sure the internet if we don’t make it ourselves to Oxford Street. They will for sure be celebrating Love Winning with the approval of gay marriage. <3
Today is dreary. We went to the church in Balmain that we attended Ash Wednesday service at to see how it was. It is the same priest, but attached to the Catholic school in Balmain. They were having family mass with a bunch of children, so it wasn’t a good representation of a typical mass. We will have to try it again. After church we stopped at the library and I got a card. Now I can get all the books and ebooks on my list of To Reads. Also, I don’t have to buy my book club books anymore. Yay libraries! While we were waiting for the bus, we went into a florist shop and finally found an aloe. I had given up that anyone imported them into Australia. It was $27, but worth it, especially when it sprouts babies. 🙂
Have a great week everyone and stay warm Wisconsinites!
