Hello all and happy Monday!
We have settled back into our routine post vacation and this side of thirty is still looking good. 🙂 Brandon bought chocolate ice cream as a treat on our 100 degree day yesterday, so it is tasting good too.
This week has been another fun one. Brandon went to a seminar and a few meet ups and is in talks with a few companies for contracts which is awesome. I missed training Tuesday, because I was still recovering from vacation. He made some awesome dinners as we have both been trying to be more healthy. We had excitement on our street at work; a water main burst in the street. We had a geyser that took up two lanes of traffic. It keep going the majority of the day and traffic was crawling. Thankfully, we had water and were not affected by it. Amusing to joke with clients about our new water feature out front.
Saturday, I went on a kayaking trip around Sydney Harbour with a group called Woman Want Adventure. It was so fun and a gorgeous day! We started at a marina and launched our two person, ocean kayaks complete with rudder. I was partnered up with a lady named Sam who was great and we did really well. The Harbour was nice and smooth starting out and our group got better at steering and staying together as the day went on. We had to cross a few times to get to other islands and it all went well. We learned from our guide how to paddle the best and steering into wakes. We stopped for morning tea provided by the trip which included tea, coffee, fruit, cookies, cakes, banana bread, dips, juice and more. So delicious. Sam and I ran into temporary difficulty when our rudder line snapped and we lost the use of it. Our guide fixed it with a zip tie and we were back going straight again. We stopped at a different beach for a swim, lunch that we brought, and the rest of the morning tea goodies. They also had a hike around the island that had some Indigenous carvings on it. The way back to the marina was more wavy, as the wind and boat traffic picked up. We made it just fine, just wet. After the kayaks were all put away, we had afternoon tea with tea, coffee, and cakes. I love teas. So yummy! I told the other ladies how we didn’t have them in the US, but I approve! I love snack time! Not so good for staying fit and trying to be healthier, but awesome for the deliciousness and social aspect. I had a great time in this group and really hope to do more adventures with them. They have future dates for hikes, yoga, and other kayaking trips around Sydney, Australia, and New Zealand.
Sunday, we went to church and then it turned crazy hot. 100 degrees and crazy humid. I closed up the house and sat and watched Blackfish. Not a good idea. It is a documentary on the orcas at SeaWorld. Very depressing and thought provoking for an animal lover like me. It makes you question all aquariums and zoos. I had been putting off watching it since I knew how heavy it was and that I would react this way, but our free Stan subscription is running out so I have to watch everything on my list.
I picked myself up out of my depressive state and went out into the heat to the train to Olympic Park and a professional Netball game. Olympic Park has a bunch of stadiums and areas for different sports, events, and concerts. I met up with Tracy who runs our fitness training nights and some of the other girls from training to watch two preseason games. The NSW Swifts vs the West Coast Fever and the Canberra Giants vs the England Roses. They are just starting playing for the year and their first big tournament is the Commonwealth Games next month. Netball was really fun to watch. Lots of action; passing, yelling, and jumping. The others were explaining rules and positions to me which was good. In training, I had learned, briefly, about the different passes, positions, rules, and basics. Tracy had sent me some videos for kids just learning about it which were very informative. I don’t think I will be picking it up as a hobby; too much running and jumping. I had fun seeing it for the first time though.
My dad had, hopefully, his last surgery this past week. He was on his way home from the hospital when I talked to them last so that is great news. Please keep him and my brother in law in your prayers for speedy recoveries and good health from here on out
My posts might change in the future. I am having trouble finding the time to sit and do them. I want to be out there living life and doing things, not just writing about it. So if my posts get shorter or fewer that is the reason. I have been maintaining one a week for well over a year. I know they are being read. I am keeping them more for my own memories like a journal, but I can’t keep up. I hope you all understand and know you can always message or email me to talk or get an update.
Have a great week everyone!
