June is here and it is officially winter.  The weather has reflected it, being cooler and rainy.  Most often it is more of a mist/sprinkle which is the most annoying for us glasses wearers.  Oh well, better to walk in than pouring rain.   It hasn’t hindered our plans too badly; thankfully we have had a few clear days too.

Last weekend, Saturday, we went to the Broadway mall to shop for our Las Vegas trip.  Brandon needed more short sleeve dress shirts, since most of what he has are sweaters.  We also had to grab some fun Birthday party stuff since it is Heidi’s Birthday trip.  We ate lunch there, then went to evening mass.  Sunday, we took the bus through the  fancy Eastern suburbs, which are right by the Harbour, to Watsons Bay.  They had markets, a band, and food tents.  We didn’t find anything fun to buy, but we found nice food and walked around the coast.  It turned into a nice day, though a bit windy.  Some Rainbow Lorikeets startled me when I nearly ran into them along the path.  We even saw a seal out playing by some scuba divers.  There was a nude beach along the way, that a few brave men were swimming at.  I don’t think I would go in the ocean this time of year without a wet suit.  On our way back, we took the ferry and then stopped at Paddy’s Markets.  I found some fun pants and we got a dinosaur for our nephew.  That afternoon, I met a few of the Oyster club for oysters and a margarita.  Then, I met Brandon in Circular Quay for Vivid, the lights and art show happening around Sydney.  We can see some of the lights from our house.  The installations are in the Rocks, Circular Quay, the Royal Botanical Gardens, Darling Harbour, and up on the north shore in Chatswood.  We ventured through all the ones on the Southern Harbour side and ended with an ice cream sundae and mulled wine in the Royal Botanical Gardens.  A possum tried to join the Vivid fun too and he go escorted out by security.  All the lights and art were so fun to see.  Such creativity!  It is all really neat.

Work this week was a bit stressful with crabby clients.  Oh well.  You can’t make everyone happy. I had to have Brandon bring Fiyero in to have his eye checked.  It is fine, but he was holding it closed off and on.  We just had to switch up his herbs and start eye meds.  We also ran blood work since he hadn’t had any in 2 years.  Turns out he has early kidney disease.  Hopefully by switching off kibble, increasing his fluids and keeping him on herbs, he will maintain and not get worse.  It was a hard blow to me and I haven’t really processed it yet.  Kidney disease is irreversible, but maybe we can stop it from getting worse at least.  Dealing with his eye issue, and now this, has been stressing me out.  I am sure some people would think I am overreacting, but the love and bond of pets is so deep.  They are part of the family.  Unfortunately, disease can happen as pets get older.  We will bear it and do all we can to keep him healthy.

Thursday night we went to Vivid in Chatswood with friends.  We went to a Thai restaurant and enjoyed the installations along the mall there.  There was a lot of interactive ones with drums and instruments, and of course, cool lights.  Really fun and a nice night for it.  We took the train there and back.  My knitted scarves are getting use with this cooler weather!

Now we are in the final stages of cleaning and packing before leaving tomorrow.  My coworker will be house and cat sitting for us, so that worked out great.  Heidi’s Birthday party is today with all her friends and family.  The three of us leave for Las Vegas tomorrow morning.  🙂 I am off to finalize packing and go buy more cat food.

Looking forward to this vacation and the warm desert.  Also can’t wait to see Lindsay, Megs, and Matt who are meeting us there!  It should be so fun!!

  1. Hello Amy & Brandon,
I am finally getting caught up on your web page. Enjoy looking at all the pictures of your adventures and new friends. It sounds like you left for Las Vegas on June 10th and today is the 15th, so assume you are now in Las Vegas and, hopefully, not losing your money. It is a fun place and one that Russ and I have not been for several years, so I’m sure it is so different. Old Las Vegas is probably still much the same, however, the places out on the strip have changed a lot by this time. You should have a wonderful time, see some good shows, and enjoy meeting up with your friends from Wisconsin. Will look forward to hearing about it.
The last time we were in Las Vegas, we rented an auto, drove to Laughlin and took a boat ride to Lake Havasu on the Colorado River. That was great fun and, of course, there is lots to do outside of Las Vegas, too. One of the amazing things about that part of the country, particularly Las Vegas, is that you can be up in the mountains where there is snow and skiing and, then, on the same day come down from the mountains and enjoy sunny and warm weather, more like a desert atmosphere.
I plan to send more news about what’s been going on in our lives via an e-mail message.
Love you Both, Grandma & Grandpa Kohl xoxoxoxo
