Hi all and welcome to spring!!! YAY!! Flowers the sun, sunscreen, the beach!! Tis the season!! The past week has been warm and sunny and the happy part of spring is here.
Sorry to everyone in WI getting into cold and sad weather. 🙁 I will soak up some sun for you!!
I am loosing my creativity with naming these posts and I am running out of time to make these posts. I think I will spread them out a bit more. It is getting nicer out and now we have a car so I think we will be spending less time at home and more time out enjoying Sydney.
Vet Tech week was last week in the US. I am proud to count myself in that number. Being a patient advocate is the biggest responsibility in my role. I am so happy my clinic takes that seriously.
The Tramsheds had an “expert” pumpkin carver doing demos and selling his work. $40 for a crappily carved pumpkin is ridiculous. My family does way more creative ones every year. I had to carve my squash out to boil for the cats. No easy canned pumpkin here. They don’t even appreciate it, leaving it in the bowl if it is not mixed in well enough. Silly cats!
Last weekend we went to a Halloween Party with Nerina and lots of Fi’s friends. The theme was villains and it was super fun. My treats went over really well. I went as Bellatrix Lestrange and Brandon was not a villain as Neo. We met so many fun people and have expanded our social circle even more. So awesome!!
Sunday morning we ventured out to the Rocks markets. They were having an oyster festival I was thinking of trying, but decided not to. At night we has the Youth Mass at church. Brandon played drums and I co- lead the singing. It went well.
My coworker was selling their car and Brandon and I voiced our interest. It is a Mazda 2. We were thinking of getting one in the next 6-12 months to do day or weekend trips and use for grocery shopping. It all worked out and we bought it. Her name is Myrtle the Turtle (from the previous owner and it fits!! 🙂 Driving here is fine. I am used to moving with traffic on buses and riding with other people so it is going well. I am more concerned about getting in and out of our garage space and the garage itself. Very tight corners and all brick or cement walls everywhere. Not very forgiving. I am getting used to it though. The third time I came home, I got in the garage and into the spot on the first try. Lately I have not been as lucky. Our car may have some scrapes on it that were not there a week ago…oops.
Book club has been going well. It is my turn to choose the book and the place this month. I picked “Men Explain Things To Me” because we are a ladies’ group and I think it will be amusing. My Ladies’ Choir Bel Canto at church has started back up Wed nights. We are singing next weekend for Remembrance Day, the day commemorating the end of WWI. I was not familiar with any of the songs. Most are old school Australian or UK hymns. Brandon is playing for a song too. It should be a fun mass.
This past Saturday, we had a potluck lunch with friends in Bondi, then checked out Sculptures by the Sea. For sure better to view the art with some alcohol in our system. I feel I was more open to it and less judge-y. We had a nice time and the weather had been hot and sunny. Thankfully it cooled off as the day went on so we didn’t boil. A few of us went to the pub down the road for some dancing to the live band.
Nerina met us the next day, after church, for brunch. I found this fun place in Darlinghurst with good views and great food. Then Nerina and I went to the NSW Mounted Police Force’s Open House in Redfern. They had the stables open and horses to pat. They had a training demonstration how they desensitize the horses to noise and things they encounter on their routes. How they charge crowds and the different grabs and holds they use on trouble makers. Two of the horses are participating in no shave November. Really cute ‘staches going on. It was really fun to see and learn about the unit. Now we know we can pat the horses when their on duty as long as the officers say it is ok.
I found Fiyero’s barber shop while waiting for the bus. I was meant to go to a coast walk and drink Sunday afternoon with the SLS, but it got cancelled. I just headed home and relaxed on the balcony. Monday was cooler and a chill night of House Hunters International. We went out for Birthday drinks with friends last night in the city. Fun night with great company. I had choir tonight and we are all ready for Remembrance Day Mass Sunday. We had to clean the apartment for our inspection tomorrow since we renewed our lease another year. The property manager comes in and make sure everything is ok. Brandon did most of it since I was at work. Hopefully we will pass with good marks!
Enjoy the pictures and talk to you next time!!
Great writing again and great pictures. Nice looking car. Bet you will enjoy it. Cold here and supposed to have snow showers today. Love you both. Grandma Miller
Hi Amy and Brandon,
Congratulations on getting an auto!! I’m sure it will be convenient and nice to have. The garage may be a challenge, but you’ll get “good” at parking it.
There must be many events in Sydney for you to attend and guess that is pretty typical of larger cities. Thanks for all the pictures, too. Love the photography showing the beautiful scenery and places you’ve been. You both looked awesome at the Halloween Party–such fun! Reminds me of when Russ and I went to the Halloween parties at the American Legion Club when living in Appleton. One time, we won the prize for best costume–dressed as pirates. I had a long black wig and Russ had the patch over the eye, etc. In fact, I went a little earlier than he did, sat at the bar, and nobody recognized me until Russ came. It was fun!!
We are having Thanksgiving dinner here on Sat., the 24th. I have bought the turkey already as they are such a good price right now–88 cents/lb. for a Butterball. Wish you could join us and we will miss you both. I may extend out a bit and invite Reid & Caroll Johnson (Russ’ cousin and wife from Appleton), that is, if they haven’t left for their winter home in Florida. Going out to the Country Inn at Zittau on the Rat River and have Perch tonight. They have the best Perch in the area, so like to go there whenever we get hungry for good fish.
Lots of Love & Happy Thanksgiving, Grandma & Grandpa Kohl xoxoxoxo
