My interview at All Natural Vet Care went well. It was a bit of a hike to get there since it is on the north west side of town, so it took an hour and three buses. They had two job openings, one for a general Vet Nurse and the other for a senior head vet nurse. (In case anyone is confused, in the US my job title is Certified Veterinary Technician since human nurses do not let veterinary ones use the nurse title. In the rest of the world, what I do is called Veterinary Nursing) I applied really for both, so the interview was for either position. We spoke a lot about how essential communication is in a veterinary practice and the roles of the nurses there. They have three positions they get scheduled and switch throughout the week; receptionist, vet assistant, and surgery nurse. They are a full service western medicine hospital as far as vaccines, blood work, xrays, ultrasound, surgery, and appointments, but mostly they do consults for natural therapies that may lead to acupuncture, chiropractic, diet evaluation, massage, Chinese herbs, and much more. They have three vets; two working at a time. Only one does the surgeries. I haven’t done much with eastern medicine and I am interested in learning more and seeing how well it works. In the US, it seems, a lot of people are wanting more natural remedies for themselves and their pets. I will see how it all works and if it is successful. Oh yeah-I got the job! When we ended the interview she was going to discuss things with the practice owners and let me know Tuesday about a trial (working interview). She called me at 8pm and offered me the senior lead nurse position. 🙂 I start Monday and at a higher pay rate than I had asked for. There will be a lot of training and getting used to how they do things, but I think it will be a great learning experience for me and a great career growing experience too. I think it will be slower paced than I am used to because the approach of natural medicine is so all encompassing and individualized depending what is going on.
I am relieved to have a job and to know we will be having an income. Brandon has been working hard at jobs too. He has been in touch with recruiters and applied for postings when he can find them. He has an interview today with a recruiter, so hopefully companies start contacting him to move forward with interviews. Now we are more limited on where he get a job since mine is on the north west side, but there are plenty of companies in every part of Sydney. We are both bummed that it isn’t closer to the north /east side where the beaches are, but that just means a shorter commute to work and a longer one to the beach. We move into our new rental Friday and plan to stay there a bit. Even though it is still about an hour by bus from there to my job as well. We will see where Brandon gets a job and go from there to find a more permanent place to live.
The cats are happy and settled now too. I am really missing their automatic feeder; Fiyero was up and complaining early this morning. We for sure need to get a spray bottle for their naughty talking when we are trying to sleep. I hope they like the new place as well. There will be less space for them initially, but once they are acclimated, we can give them more. After Brandon’s interview today we are toying with either going to the beach or to the Sydney Museum. They have an exhibit on spiders that would be fun to learn about. It is only going to be a high of 25C (77F) today, the coldest day this week. I suggested we do a different beach day.
Talk to you all later. Feel free to comment, email, or Hangouts message.
Amy: congrads on-your job. You will be a big asset to their practice. I will be interested to learn, as you, eastern medicine practices. I look forward to your daily logs. Keep writing!!!??????????
Not sure where to post on newer post!so will do so here. Nice pics? I love the painted wall. What an exciting area. Sounds like work was a challenge, Amy, but knowing you I’m sure all worked out. Good luck to Brandon on job search. Be safe. Dale and Sis and of course Patches.
Amy thanks for the slides on spiders!!!!????? now I can’t sleep. I’m deathly afraid of spiders!!!!! Ha. Ha. Good luck on your new job Monday. Love reading your adventures.
Hi Amy & Brandon,
We are enjoying all the photos you are sending of “finding your way” in Sydney. It’s wonderful that you landed the job as senior veterinary nurse, Amy, so glad to hear that. Do hope that Brandon will be able to get a job soon, too, and then, like you said, you can decide the best area of the city to live. Glad to hear that the cats are doing so well. They look very healthy in all the pictures. Keep sending the pictures because we really enjoy seeing the sites as you are taking them in. Winter weather has returned in the last couple days with rain and snow, but the sun is shining brightly today. Last evening as Russ and I were going to dinner at Biggar’s here in Winneconne, we saw four sandhill cranes in the open field on 5th Ave. This is really early for them to be back and do think the warm spell we had recently “goofed up nature.” Poor things, they are probably freezing right now, but hope they can take refuge somewhere or else fly down south again.
Talk to you again. With Love, Grandma & Grandpa Kohl xoxoxoxo
Happy bday Amy!? Hope yours was as good as mine!
