This weekend we got to act like tourists since Jax’s cousin was visiting and we hung out with them.  Heidi was off with her family for the weekend but we got to do dinner and TV Thursday night.  Friday we took an Uber (Brandon and my first!) to Manly to an Italian restaurant which was delicious.  Saturday for lunch, Jax’s brother Ray picked us up and drove us into the city to the Center Point Tower, also know as the Westfield tower.  We have also heard it called the Golden Bucket but apparently that is not common knowledge to most Sydney-siders.  The tower has a buffet restaurant at the top of it that rotates for 360 degree views of the city.  It was fun to see the city from so high up; it looks so much smaller and compact than when you are walking it on the ground.  You could see the whole harbor, airport, and all the way to the ocean.  Very neat experience.  The food was pretty good too.  A nap was in order after all the buffet food, then later we layered up and drove to the edge of the Harbor Bridge to see Vivid Sydney.  We missed the ferry over to the city, so we walked across the bridge for views of the lit city.  We walked around the Rocks and saw a few of the artist installations that were apart of the Vivid experience, then made our way around Circular Quay and to the Opera House.  Jax’s cousin had never been to Sydney before so she was super excited to see it and amazed at all the lights.  We did make the ferry back to the North shore, though it did not go to the warf closest to the car as hoped, so we had to walk some more.  It was all good fun though and we got to see and do a lot.  On Sunday, as if we hadn’t walked enough, Brandon and I headed to the Sydney Fish Market on the other side of Darling Harbor.  (we took the bus into the city, then hoofed it from there) The Fish Market was really cool.  They have every type of seafood you want  to take home and make yourself, or for them to cook up for you to eat there.  Lobsters, oysters, so many types of fish, crabs, abalone, cockles, cuddle fish, squid, sea cucumbers; all fresh.  The sushi looked amazing as well.  We purposely ate before we went so we would look and not buy.  They also had a meat store, bread, cheese, and wine to have yourself a fancy meal there, or else everything you need to bring home for one.  We will for sure go back for lunch sometime and try it.  After, we walked back to Darling Harbor to the Chinese Friendship Gardens and had a tour.  It was so nice and peaceful; a little spot of seclusion in the middle of the busy city.  They had a tea shop, but it was closing for the day so we decided to find a place for an afternoon snack.  We decided on a Belgian chocolate place; a little pricey, but delicious.  We then walked the city back to the main bus stop and home.  I made dinner for us and Heidi and then we watched some Boarder Security Patrol and I worked on Brandon’s hat.  Today I was off so I slept in and cleaned.  We are headed into the city tonight for dinner and a movie at a restaurant.  This will be a busy week since it is Heidi’s Birthday Thursday and Jax and her Birthday party here at the house Saturday.  Not much Brandon and I have to do, but we will help as we can for it.  Jax put a tent up in the garden, despite the annoyingly placed trees.  So things are coming together in preparation for the big event!  Talk to you all soon and enjoy the pictures!

  1. Hi Amy & Brandon,
The additional pictures of Vivid Australia are absolutely fascinating as to what they are able to do with lighting–so beautiful!! Found the pics from the Sydney Seafood Market quite interesting, too. The prices are high, but the seafood looks top of the line for sure. With all the walking you do, you should keep track of the mileage put on at those times.
Grandpa and I have been busy this week with having a major recarpeting of the condo. It is a lot of work, to say the least because we have to take down all little items, clear things out of cabinets and closets. Oh, it is just great fun, let me tell you!! I had a “brainstorm” to just call a mover and have them pack up everything and move all the furniture out, keep it for about 3 days, and bring it back when all the new carpeting was in. The carpet installers do move the furniture out of the room and put it back in place, that is, for a charge. Oh, well, it will be nice when all done…………………………………………………..
Good to hear you are doing well and thank you for the update.
Love, Grandma & Grandpa Kohl xoxoxoxo
P.S. Lori & Jeff are coming out this evening to pick up some of the old carpet they want for the basement “Up North.”
